Enjoy the process

It is a process. Put yourself first. Learn. Grow. And then you can get to the point to where you can give back.
You will get there.
In school you help in the community through your courses in some form usually. This is great. But the point is you cannot truly help others until you help yourself.
Let me tell you a story about myself. When I graduated from Cal Poly I was full of ideas, ambition and heart! I was ready to help all those in need. Make a difference. Honor those who have fallen. Changes lives!
And then a reality hit as well. I went through all that schooling (wouldn’t change it) but now I am broke because I paid what I could through school and will continue paying for years to come through credit card debt and loans. So I am useless to many because I must first help myself. I did small things to volunteer locally but not overextendbig myself. And really worked on me (even though, if being honest, getting to that point really was a struggle - I will save that for another day though).
So now hear I am making money through a great position with a wonderful company and lots of opportunity and helping other individuals do the same! All the while offering my services to all those I have wanted to help without any cost.... because now I CAN.
I am am not looking for a spare $20 and financially stable and successful. Or at least getting closer and closer to that dream every day.
The sum of the story is this....
Get paid. Know your worth. And then help lift up others.
Do not hold yourself back trying to help others first.
There is some truth to this even still if you are getting paid. But I hope you see my point.
You will get to the point to where helping others will not hurt you. And this idea that many teach us of not being selfish... yeah forget that.
There is a time to be selfish with you and your time. And this is your time.
