Get to know yourself: Personally & Professionally

Updated: Jan 23, 2019

So in my early 20's it was a lot of time of getting to know myself (in the workplace & outside). With so many opportunities and potential for more in life, I felt limitless. Turns out, I was RIGHT!

Pretty bold statement I know.

Some may argue this but I mean it wholeheartedly. But not just for me. For anyone during this time of your life. Many of your choices can make a difference in your life and while you can make the wrong one, I feel like you have more room to make those mistakes. And let's be honest, your homework and even your professors are much more forgiving than your future first boss. At the same time though, your first career boss (even if you had jobs before this) is usually more forgiving because they know you are learning and trying to make sense of all you learned in the classroom and apply it to the real-world or completely toss that out the window, and get your hands in there.

Point is this, you have the time to make mistakes. This is much harder as you get older. People are less understanding and expect more from you. Even if you did a complete career flip.

And this is why I was limitless.

While I may still be able to get away with this to a point now, there is a limit to it and expectation for me to know better. However as you age, you learn quicker I believe and I believe you are able to analyze your work and yourself and see how to fix it before anyone even notices your errors - I highly encourage all to put their own processes in place to save yourself from heartache.

I went to a seminar not too long ago on Leadership Skills. I highly recommend investing in yourself in different types of education (even if it doesn't get you a degree or certificate). This seminar was through Fred Pryor (www.pryor.com). I have really enjoyed all the live seminars, online training and pre-recorded videos all there for $300 annually with unlimited access, it is really a great deal whether for work or personal & I highly recommend. #notanad

We are different and see things when we want to see them so try different ways & get to know you while you can. There is harm in your mistakes. You only truly fail if you do not try again.

So while you want to aim to do well, do not fear trying. You just may succeed!

Use it.

Take the time to make and learn from your mistakes. Offer to head up a new project that you don't know everything about. Work with the one who is more critical. Prove to yourself and others that you have the heart to do it. Do not back down from the challenge. Push yourself to grow personally and professionally.

Much Success,
