When we start a new year it feels like such a big change. Like there is something different about the year to come. Is there change to come with it? Sure. There will always be changes in your life that happen depending on your choices. But this will happen always, whether it is the beginning of the year, the month, the week, the day, the hour really.
I know you are thinking to yourself, what is your point?
Well let me tell you..
that IS my point.
There is nothing more true than that every single day is literally a new day. A new start. A beginning. You can change your life in one day just as your life can be changed (by someone or something other than yourself).
Let that sit for a minute.
No really.
Think about all the changes you have listed with your new years' resolutions and then go find your old list for 2018. Have you done them? Or are you always waiting for the new year to get there?
If you cannot tell, I am not a huge fan of new years resolutions. Not because goals are lame (far from the truth) or that I think they are not important. Goals and your plans are of so much importance in your life for you to move forward. But what I do not buy into is this idea that you need an entire new YEAR (which may seem short but this is 365 days!) to start over. That so many people wait until this new year to make it happen.
Try today. Today is that day.
Try not to tie your goals to a beginning, they are your beginning!
And resolutions. Make them and plan them out in how you think you will be able to actually achieve them. Even if it does not exactly pan out that way. Trust me, most of the time (good or bad) it doesn't go exactly that way. But the point is that you sit down with your goals and make a plan, start small and let it grow. Plan for this year, next year, 5 or 10 years from now even. Because if 5 years from now you want to own your own home, you need to take those 5 years and break down how you will save or repair your credit and what it will really look like.
So here are some examples of goals for myself. I have a goal this year to learn more, expand my knowledge and just be a little more 'well-rounded. So I decided to do this last year with reading at least twelve books. I read SIXTEEN. So this year my goal is to read 20 books. I am on it to just keep increasing. That means I need to read my books within about 2.5 weeks. If you take 52 weeks in a year ( I have already lost two lol) and divide that by two, you are at 26 books that could be read if I take less than 2 weeks with each book.
Now if you really think about it. This is nothing.
The last book I read, 'Girl, wash your face' by Rachel Hollis took me longer because I was really taking each chapter and writing questions for myself and seeing where it related most for me if at all. But normally reading a book takes me about a week if I really focus on reading them, some just took a few days. AND they were not any shorter! HA.
The point is, you take a goal and break it down into smaller, more manageable and specific tasks or goals that will allow you to make that goal happen.
Now whether this is part of your #newyearnewme or just part of you attempting to make things happen, break it down. Make a plan. Write it down or tell someone. Hold yourself accountable. Because let me tell you if you don't make these accomplishments instead of goals, the only one you are hurting is you.
Every single day is a new day. If you do not like something in your life.
CHANGE IT!
Now.
Do not wait any longer. You have waited long enough. Own your life.
Own it.
