Tackling Big Projects!

Updated: Jan 23, 2019

Have you gotten a big project & procrastinated because you were not sure where to start? Done any other work instead of, even if not priority or due now?

Right here! Me.

I have sat and starred at something over and over or even written it on a list again and again because I still have not done it and it feels like too much to get done. Until I found this trick..

Break it down!

I know this may sound obvious but I have heard more people say they procrastinate and push it off instead of starting with the big project or task until the last minute.

Do not get me wrong. I do best with a fire under my behind. But there is a difference between a fire under you because of outside factors and to have it be under you because of yourself.

If it is just because of you then it can quickly become overwhelming yet controllable. Added stress on top of something that may not need to be or something already stressful enough.

So lets break it down. I’ll give you a real example.

Project: Implementing new system

Audience: Company-wide

Impact: Medium

To complete my task was more than just click a button by any means so I broke it down into three groups.

Testing.

Preparation.

Training.

And then under each I listed out what needed to be done at each, once I finished with that previous section.

So I wrote down all the different parts of the system I needed to test. The results. Summarized and took snapshots of all I needed to knowing I would have to train managers and employees individually on this system later.

Then when I was done with all testing tasks, I created a list of all tasks needing to be done to prepare. And on and on.

Doing this I was able to tackle this huge project in less time than I had thought comparing to the week of time I had lost in procrastinating to tackle it at all.

Try it out. I hope it helps you too!

Much Success,
